MMA Styles

Common martial arts fighting styles found and used in MMA. 

Mixed Martial Arts

As the name implies, mixed martial arts uses a variety of combat styles. The beauty of MMA is the ability to blend these different techniques into a unique style of fighting. Most mixed martial artists use a combinaiton of these popular styles.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Ground fighting style based on dominant positions, submission holds, and chokes.

Boxing

Fighting style consisting exclusively of punching strikes and quick footwork.

Karate

A striking style martial art using punching, kicking, knees, elbows, knife-hands, and heel-palm strikes.

Muay Thai Kickboxing

Uses stand-up striking with fists, elbows, knees, and shins along with various clinching techniques.

Wrestling

Combat style using clinch fighting, throws and takedowns, joint locks, pins and other grappling holds.

Taekwondo

Martial art style that emphasizes head-height kicks, spinning jump kicks, and fast kicking techniques


But That's Not All!

Martial arts permiates through many different cultures and regions. Though these martial arts styles provide common tools in MMA, they are by no means the only forms of martial arts! Other popular styles include Kung Fu, Judo, Krav Maga, and Aikido!
